Installing PHP (ISAPI) in Windows 2000 Professional (#1)

The following PHP installation steps are on the assumption that you have IIS5 (PWS) and Winzip already installed in Windows 2000 Professional, and that you have previously downloaded the "php-4.4.1-win32.zip" file from PHP.NET:

1) Extract the zip file in the root directory of drive C:

Double Click on the php-4.4.1-win32.zip file (A) that you have previously downloaded... This will be located either on your desktop or some other folder that you have designated when you downloaded the zipped PHP binary files. Note that the other downloadable file (the php-4.4.1-installer.exe) is not what we will use.  It is the zipped file which we will use for this manual installation.

... The zipped file will open in a Winzip window (B). Click the "Extract button" (C)...

... to open Winzip's "Extract" window (D):

Select the "Local Disk [C:]" (E) in the "Folders/drives" box such that the "Extract to:" box shows "C:\" (E).  Making sure that the "All files" is selected; "Overwrite existing files" and specially the "Use folder names" options are checked (F).   When you click on the "Extract" button (G), a new folder named "php-4.4.1-win32" will be created in the C: root containing all the files of the PHP package.

The actual appearance of Winzip's "Extract" window (D) will depend on the version of Winzip that you are using.  The top screen shot and the one below are two examples of Winzip's "Extract" window.

Next Step: 2) Create the "C:\PHP" directory.
